Frequently Asked Questions

+ What's the difference between a bookkeeper and an accountant?

A bookkeeper keeps your financial records organized, accurate and up to date on a day to day basis — tracking income, expenses, reconciling accounts and generating reports. An accountant typically steps in at tax time to file returns and provide higher level financial strategy. Think of a bookkeeper as the person who keeps the engine running all year long, so your accountant has clean, accurate numbers to work with at tax time. You need both — and a great bookkeeper makes your accountant's job much easier and less expensive.

+ How does the onboarding process work?

It starts with a free consultation where we talk about your business, your current financial situation and what you need. From there I'll put together a plan that fits your specific needs and budget. Once we agree on services I'll get access to your accounts, get everything organized and we'll be off and running. I make the process as smooth and stress free as possible — no confusing paperwork or overwhelming checklists.

+ How often will we communicate?

As often as you need. At minimum we'll touch base monthly when I deliver your financial reports and go over anything important. But I'm always available by email or phone if something comes up in between. You'll never feel like you're in the dark about your finances.

+ Do I need QuickBooks before working with you?

Not at all. If you already have QuickBooks I can work with what you have, clean it up if needed and make sure it's set up correctly. If you don't have it yet I can help you get set up from scratch. And if QuickBooks isn't the right fit for your business we'll figure out the best solution together.

+ What if my books are a mess — can you still help?

Absolutely — and please don't be embarrassed. You'd be surprised how many business owners come to me with books that haven't been touched in months or even years. That's exactly what I'm here for. I've seen it all and I'm not here to make you feel stressed about where you're starting — I'm here to help you move forward. We start where you are, no questions asked.

+ Do you work with my industry?

I work with a wide range of small to medium sized businesses across many industries. My background is especially strong in property management, real estate, service based businesses and short term rentals. That said the core principles of good bookkeeping apply across industries — if you're not sure if I'm a good fit just reach out and we'll figure it out together.

+ How much do your services cost?

Pricing depends on the size of your business, the volume of transactions and the services you need. I offer customized packages rather than one size fits all pricing because every business is different. The best way to get an accurate number is to schedule a free consultation — there's no obligation and no pressure, just an honest conversation about what you need and what it will cost.

+ Are you local or do you work remotely?

Both! I'm based in Orange County, New York and I'm an active member of the Orange County Chamber of Commerce. I'm happy to meet in person with local clients. I also work with clients remotely across the country — with cloud based tools like QuickBooks Online, location is no barrier to getting great bookkeeping support.

+ Is my financial information secure?

Absolutely. I treat your financial information with the same care and confidentiality I would want for my own. I use secure, encrypted tools for file sharing and communication and I never share your information with anyone. Your privacy and security are a top priority.

+ What do I need to get started?

Not much! Just reach out for a free consultation. From there I'll let you know exactly what I need based on your specific situation. Typically it includes access to your bank accounts and credit card statements, any existing accounting software you use and a few details about your business. I'll walk you through every step — you won't have to figure anything out on your own.
